Door Works Featured On HGTV

We built a huge fireplace mantle/surround for the HGTV’s Smart Home 2017. This massive fireplace stretches all the way to the top of this Great Room, and has a hidden section holding a television. The geometric design of the base and the bold black fireplace box creates a beautiful accent for HGTV’s Smart Home of 2017.

AZ Central did a featured piece of HGTV’s Smart Home 2017, and included Door Work’s owner, Denis Fallon in their article. Here’s a snippet of what Denis had to say in the planning of this intricate, puzzled wall:

“For the fireplace wall, Brooks wanted carved panels that would fit together like a 3-D puzzle. As a starting point, she sent a “concept image” to DoorWorks owner Denis Fallon, who also created doors and millwork for the house.

“It’s pretty normal for a concept image to be something off of Pinterest,” Fallon explained, “where the photograph is taken from far away and at a weird angle and kind of grainy. And that’s what she sent.”

Brooks supplemented the grainy photo with a few hand sketches. But Fallon and his team supplanted her idea with a far more elaborate rendering. “When we went back to them with our sample panel, they looked at it and said: ‘Oh, yeah! Do that,'” Fallon remembered. “I had a simpler idea,” agreed Brooks, “and they really ran with it.” The final wall, 18 feet high and six feet wide, is an intricate array of geometric shapes and angles carved into MDF panels. Each two-foot-square panel features one of three different designs that interlock seamlessly, even where discreet doors hide a flat-screen television. “It was really complex,” Fallon acknowledged, “but with the wall being such a focal point, it seemed like it was important.”
